Unity Prom 2023

Ho‘ea proudly sponsored the Kaimuku High School Bulldog ”Unity Prom” 2023 to provide an inclusive opportunity for students with special needs to celebrate–and just have fun! The first Unity Prom was held in 2019, in which Ho’ea worked closely with Kaimuki High School Staff and Faculty to coordinate the inaugural event which was held in the school’s gym. While this annual event was put on hold starting 2020, Ho’ea did not miss a beat for 2023. This year’s prom was held at the Waialae Country Club– complete with buffet, photographer Garrett Nose, DJs, and special VIP guests from University of Hawai’i Athletics. And once again, Ho‘ea’s sponshorship meant the entire event was at no cost to the students who joined from Kaimuki, Kalani, and McKinley High Schools (along with some of their fellow classmates, support staff, and aids). It was a heartwarming prom to remember. As Hawai’i News Now so aptly put it: “A coming-of-age event for everyone: Unity Prom gives all types of learners a chance to celebrate.”

Ho‘ea joins the Polynesian Voyaging Society

Around sunset hour on December 1, 2016, Ho‘ea—The Foundation, along with some of the Foundation’s community partners, joined Bruce Blankenfeld and the Polynesian Voyaging Society crew for an unforgettable and educational experience out at sea on the Hikianalia. The crew educated us not only about the art and science of traditional Polynesian voyaging, but also about how the Society perpetuates the spirit of exploration through experiential educational programs. The crew, from all backgrounds and ages, welcomed us to participate alongside them — what an amazing experience! Our evening together also celebrated Ho‘ea’s partnership with the Polynesian Voyaging Society as we presented them with a donation to support their ongoing effort in our community to educate and continue this beautiful legacy of voyaging & exploration. Our sincere thanks to Bruce and the Polynesian Voyaging Society for welcoming us on board.

Ho‘ea — The Foundation is honored that Coach Laura Beeman has made us a part of her team.

I am often times asked to speak to different groups about Leadership, Connection, Developing a Program and much more.  To take these opportunities and use them to improve our community is exciting! I Love Hawaii!  It is where I live, I work, and YES play!  The “Paying it Forward” concept Ho‘ea — The Foundation has adopted is brilliant.  It sums up so much in such a small phrase and I hope you will join me in “Paying it Forward”.
